ISBS 2018 (2018 International Sandy Beaches Symposium) was held in Heraklion, Greece from 25 to 29 May 2018.

The ISBS 2018 was held from 25 to 29 May 2018. It was hosted by the Institute for Marine Biology Biotechnology and AquacultureHellenic Centre for Marine Research.

Location: Hellenic Centre for Marine Research, Gournes Pediados, Heraklion, Greece (refer to the Accommodation page for details)

Sandy beach scientists, students and managers at all levels were invited to participate and share their research, making this symposium a platform to interact, establish links and identify synergies across disciplines.

In this perspective, keynotes and workshops were planned as occasion to connect disciplines and experiences, highlight gaps and raise questions to be addressed with forthcoming research.

The keynotes and sessions proposed were based on the recommendations provided by participants to previous editions of ISBS. The idea of continuity and working together, including a high involvement of participants, was key to this symposium.

Contributions from all disciplines around the topic of sandy beaches were welcome, from biogeochemistry to animal behaviour, to biogeography and numerical modelling.

Prof. Phoebe Koundouri gave a Keynote Speech at the Sandy Beach International Symposium on "Sundy Beaches" in Crete on "The Challenge of Designing and Implementing Marine Resource Sustainability in an Interdisciplinary Framework''.
